Welcome to My World: The Alternative Mom Edition!
Updated: Nov 22, 2024
The "Alternative Mom" that's right, I said it! Allow me to introduce myself as the alternative mom, a title that can be used a few different ways. Alternative: of one or more things, relating to behavior that is considered unconventional and is often seen as a challenge to traditional norms. In a nutshell, I live for 90's and 2000's alternative grunge music, love the color black, and celebrate Halloween all year long...like if "emo" and "plain Jane" had a baby, it would be me. Unconventional and finding ways for a better lifestyle.
Before we go any further does the term "elder emo" make anyone else cringe? Yeah? Cool...I'm not alone!

So why the alternative mom? Well, my oldest child has duped me as the "cool mom." I can accept that. Openly admitting that I'm the mom who doesn't always have her life together, who's house has toys thrown all over (yeah, no matter how many times I ask the littles to clean up), and just takes a laid-back approach to life. Overly stimulated, under-socialized (definitely not a part of the soccer mom club), hoodies, sweats, leggings, Dr. Martens, Converse wearing mom.
Early 2019
This was one of the toughest personal times in my life I've ever experienced. I was diagnosed with Crohn's and after years of suffering from chronic pain, decided to change my life for the better! This is where Nostalgic Roots comes in. What started as my cosmetology career identity, quickly turned into a passion of mine. Escaping my cosmetology career to focus on better health and overall wellness to focus on studying integrative health and wellness. Not just for myself but my family and to share my knowledge to you all.
Breathe Easy
Life can be stressful, always anticipating what the next step is (this has taken a backseat in my life), can you relate? I'm here to reassure you that deep breaths and allowing personal time is perfectly acceptable in an overly stimulated, judgmental world!
